By Alison Cole Until a few years ago, not many people had even heard of anorexia, let alone know anything about it. However, today the term “anorexia” is used quite often in our conversations. People suffering from anorexia have just one aim in mind - to lose weight. They are dissatisfied by the way they look and feel that they are fat even in a near emaciated condition. Anorexia Nervosa, an eating disorder, is the relentless pursuit of thinness. Anorexics try to achieve that “perfect body” through a variety of methods ranging from self-induced vomiting to excessive exercising, from intake of laxatives to being on a constant diet. An anorexic person weighs 15% less than the ideal weight, depending on the age or height of the person in question. Symptoms of anorexia are not very easy to distinguish from a simple desire to lose weight. However, it must be noted that in an anorexic person these desires become exaggerated. A person suffering from anorexia may manifest some or all of the symptoms. Skipping meals regularly, refusal to eat in public often, always carrying a diet drink along, being too obsessive about calorie intake or indulging in excessive and compulsive exercising, are some of the symptoms of an anorexic. Anorexia can cause depression, irritability, withdrawal, loneliness and, if not treated on time, can even lead to one’s death. Shrunken bones, mineral loss, irregular heartbeat and low body temperature are some of the medical hazards that are associated with this disorder. In some cases it leads to Bulimia Nervosa, which is a diet-binge-purge eating disorder. Some people, after a strict diet regimen to lose weight, go into an uncontrolled eating phase, which is then usually followed by a desperate desire to lose weight by unconventional means. This process is a vicious cycle and causes a lot of mental trauma. Treatment of anorexia is possible but only when the patient is convinced that he or she is indeed suffering from an ailment and is ready for medication. Studies show that approximately 60% of the people who undergo some kind of treatment have full chances of recovery. By CD Mohatta To give happiness is considered a virtue. Please try and make others happy, say the thinkers. I don’t know what precisely they mean by that. So unless I meet one of them and find out the true meaning of the statement, let me put my ideas here and think. If accidentally, I step on someone’s foot on a busy street, and the other person is not ready to accept my apologies, but thinks that he will be happy only by beating me to pulp, shall I let me do that? Should I reason with him, or make him feel happy. All right, I lie down here without offering any resistance and you please be happy by kicking me as much as you want. After getting so badly beaten, I try to reach a hospital and find out that the doctors and nurses will only feel happy by making me wait for endless hours. If I request them to look at me sooner, they will get angry because many other patients have to be attended and the medical staff is over burdened, or so it thinks. So I make them happy, by remaining in pain for long and then get operated wrongly. It was my liver that was injured, but the surgeon wrongly operated on my kidney. Shall I make him/her unhappy by complaining of this blunder? The poor surgeon is already burdened with work and home-related problems. How can I add to them? So? I keep quite. What of my family? They want me to get healthy again and begin taking their care as soon as possible. But I am in no state of doing that. What shall I do now? How can I make my family unhappy? Some of them have planned vacations; some have to buy other expensive gadgets. If I stay in the hospital, who will pay for all those expenses? So I try going back to work and make money. But I am so weak and hurt, that I cannot work. My boss feels that he will be very happy by removing me from the job. I accept that without protest. Protesting may make him unhappy. I walk out on the road and is very happy to be killed by a drunk driver on the road. In the whole sequence, if I take a new birth, and go back to every character of this story, I will be surprised to find that they are all very unhappy with me. My family thinks that I cheated on them by not getting treated properly. My surgeon will think that I should have given them one more chance of operating upon me and making me sicker. My boss thinks that I left an important position that is now difficult to fill. The drunk driver thinks that I intentionally came across the car and got hit. By Gregg Hall Its becoming increasingly more difficult to plan a wedding with a budget in mind with the cost of everything going higher every year, but if you try it is still feasible to plan that special day on a shoestring. Here are a few tips to help you pinch those pennies and make the dollar stretch as far as possible. If you have already started thinking about getting married and have looked into prices at all then you already know that the rental of a church or other indoor facility will definitely cost you money. This was a surprise to me when I got married; I thought the church would supply their building for free! It was $200 for us to use it from 9am to 11:30. Another requirement with most churches is that you must be a member of the church to be able to get married there. If you opt for some other venue they will probably ask for a deposit and they will usually have a minimum rate that is charged. There are other choices that can erase this part of your bill. If it is a time of the year that is not cold where you live you could get married in a park, on a lake, or if you are lucky, on a beach! The cost of floral arrangements and flowers can be higher or lower depending on the season. You may be able to choose flowers that are similar to the ones you really want but cost an arm and a leg. Also remember that buying a package of some kind will drastically lower your total cost as opposed to buying single flowers. The price of a good wedding photographer can be the single most expensive part of the entire event. If you and your groom are agreeable and have a friend or relative who is good with a camera, why not give them a show at it? You may even be able to get a few people to do it. One idea I saw once was to give everyone disposable cameras to take pictures then they left the cameras at the reception to be collected and developed. Contrary to the opinion in some debutante magazines you dont have to spend thousands of dollars to get a nice wedding dress. You can now find factory outlets that offer wedding gowns just like other clothes. Sometimes you can find them as low as a hundred bucks! Shopping online is another choice. For the groom the easiest thing to do is to rent a tuxedo if you are having a formal wedding, if you are having a beach wedding you may just go with a tropical print shirt and light colored pants! You can cut costs for the reception by having yours at a friends or neighbors home if they have a nice yard with a cool setting. If you need more space and need indoor seating then a place like a legion hall may be an option. For catering try your local grocery store first, they usually offer large platters at reasonable prices. The choice to skimp on the honeymoon has to be mutually agreeable by both the bride and groom. Not only is excess fat considered unattractive by most people, excess fat is one of the biggest causes of disease and death in the western world today. Given the number of overweight people, its easy to suppose that few of these diet to lose weight guides really are as effective as they claim. Nevertheless, youll always find people who have followed these diets and succeeded. So what makes the difference between a success and a failure? Truthfully, there are several factors involved. For starters, some people really do have more self control and willpower than others, but thats not the only reason. For most people, an effective diet to lose weight will include a meal plan that they can follow easily. What are the hallmarks of an easy to follow meal plan? For starters, it really helps if the foods in the weight loss diet plan are not distasteful to the dieter! If you primarily eat a lot of meat and potatoes, then a diet that advocates mostly vegetarian food which is low in starchy foods like potatoes and meats is probably going to be a very difficult one to follow. Up until I found this book, Id tried a number of different diets, which all worked with varying degrees of success, but often failed to keep me satisfied in the long term. The difference with this diet to lose weight is that I could actually stick with the plan, and enjoyed most of the recipes included with the book.
